Abby graduated in 2020. During her time at WAC, she won the Maureen Jacoby Prize and
was a finalist for the Sophie Kerr Prize. She was Editor in Chief at The Elm for two
years, Cherry Tree production intern for the Literary House, and intern for the Literary
House Press. For her SCE, she worked closely with Dr. O'Connor and explored how different
types of trauma—specifically sexual and postcolonial trauma—influence and ultimately
break the protagonist in Jean Rhys's Voyage in the Dark. Her time at the Elm prepared
her for her current journalism job at the Capital Journal. At the Capital Journal,
Wargo has covered COVID-19, marijuana legalization in South Dakota, state politics,
general health and wellness, social services, and education.
