McLain Atrium

A dramatic three-story glass atrium joins the Dunning-Decker wing to the Toll Science Center wing.

This beautiful open area, where receptions, meetings, and study sessions are held, is named for renowned pyrotechnical inventor, environmentalist, beloved chemistry professor and president of Washington College, Joseph H. McLain ‘37. The ground floor of the atrium is a lounge area where students and faculty may congregate to socialize, receptions can be held for visiting speakers, and scientific poster sessions are offered for the campus community. It also showcases an award-winning, illuminated art installation, "Radiant Echo," that evokes the sparkle and shimmer of exploding fireworks.

Complete with tables and chairs, couches, computers, and a bust of John S. Toll himself, the atrium is a centerpiece of the Science Center.
